Robofest for Homeschoolers

Homeschool Connections is exploring the possibility of having classes for students in grades 4-8 who would like to participate in Robofest through Lawrence Technological University.

Robofest is an annual autonomous robotics competition designed to promote and support STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math) and Computer Science for students in grades 5 – 12 and college students. Robofest challenges teams of students to design, build, and program robots to compete. This is a great opportunity for students who enjoy the engineering and robotic classes and would like to put their knowledge to work!

The Homeschool Connections Class would be small, team-based robotics engineering projects for grades 4-8.  Class time is spent building, programming and “debugging” Lego Mindstorms robot in preparation for Robofest Robotics Competition. Outside class time commitments and additional fees are required for this class and the competitions.

The teacher for this class as well as the Robofest coach will be Patty O’Brien Novak, an engineer, author and experienced educational consultant, trainer & speaker, specializes in bringing engineering into the elementary classroom. She is passionate about engineering education and is excited about this opportunity. You can meet her on her website at www.pattyobriennovak.com and at the meeting on Wednesday.

We are having an informational meeting this Wednesday, October 24th at 11:00 at our Farmington Hills location Woodside Bible Church Farmington Hills,  28301 Middlebelt Road, Farmington Hills, MI 48334.
